Obviously, this holds true for a minority of people who are believing in conspiracy theories. Unfortunately, the same is applicable to a major share of the population which is readily applauding governmental propaganda, adopted and transmitted by so-called mainstream media. Nota bene: the author has been living in Germany and remembers more objective, critical reporting as well as real debate from pre CoVid-19 times.

A look into social media suggests that this has increasingly come true. Does it reflect a lack of people giving explanations or is it the result of a growing reluctance to bother about divergent opinions and facts? Are social media simply amplifying omnipresent cacophony or Is such a perception biased by vulnerability to noisy bowwow?

Education, the adoption of scientific methodology and not least a discursive validation of findings are increasing the chance that scientists come closer to reality by striving for evidence.

Although a bit harsh, this quote presumably was addressed to people engaged in research who rarely are foolish with respect to their intellectual capacities. Nevertheless, the understanding of findings regarding their scope, implications as well as the missing pieces is making the distinction.

As a photographing scientist the author knows from own experience that this quote from the photographer Anselm Adams also applies to the realm of research and ostensibly science-based politics.
